Customer Review: This CD set was great for my roadtrip. I laughed so hard that I had tears in my eyes! It also still has that special sentimentality that David Sedaris's voice adds extra meaning to. However, there are parts that are downright gross and it is not for the faint of heart, I now have a phobia of boils.
Customer Review: Novelist Julian Barnes (b. 1946) was never baptized and has never attended a church service in his life, and so he's never had any faith to lose. He came by this unbelief honestly; his father was an agnostic and his mother said that she didn't want "any of that [religious] mumbo jumbo." But the... more info
Customer Review: The first chapter of this book is very good. The later chapters like the vicars egg are good in parts .I must admitt I laughed out loud at times but as the book went on I found it less and less likely to be accurate . Having learnt various foreign languages in difficult circumstances I found this... more info

Customer Review: It is hard to pick one set of stars for a book that is full of different essays. I would give some of the essays 4 stars, others 3, and maybe even some 2s. If I look at the book as a whole, I liked it. There are a few stories that stick out -- like Santaland Diaries (about Sedaris' stint as an Elf... more info
Customer Review: I found This I Believe to ultimately be a little pithy and heavy-handed at times. Which seems only natural when people are passionately expressing their "personal credos." I wonder if it would be more interesting to ~hear~ the essays, which is the originally intended format on NPR. There is a... more info
Customer Review: This book is NOT Camus's "The Stranger"! It is a literary review of the work, and NOT the work itself. If you are looking to read Camus's "The Stranger" DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK! I feel that Amazon should refund/not charge for those who buy this book thinking they are going to read Camus! NOT CAMUS... more info
Customer Review: I love listening to David Sedaris on "This American Life" and think he's very funny, smart and clever. This is the first book of his I've read, and I was not disappointed. Most of the stories are side-splittingly funny, but there are a few that are almost too emotional or raw for my taste. Not too... more info
Customer Review: There are 3 fantastic essays in here:
"A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again"
"Getting Away from Being Pretty Much Away from It All"
and the essay on Michael Joyce. Its extremely sad to see such a talented writer die young. This is a good book but not great only because... more info
Customer Review: My nephew who is 15 really liked this book. He had read before but had been wanting his own copy. My neice who is 17 suggested it to him.
Customer Review: "SantaLand Diaries" and "Dinah, the Christmas Whore" save this one. Sedaris is at his best telling tales (tall or otherwise) of his own life and family. I like the satirical stories less. Still, it is David Sedaris after all... which means you'll no doubt laugh and enjoy yourself.
