Customer Review: Krakauer, with his experience of extreme adventures and good understanding of psychology, has done an excellent work of investigation. Methodically, he allows the reader to better understand this tragic story, clearing alongside McCandless of foolishness and irresponsibility suspicions. He... more info
Customer Review: Bryson's "Thunderbolt Kid" does more to recapture the pure fun of an American boyhood
in the mid-West of the 50s than any memoir you can think of. He reminds you of the view
from about 4 feet high, and the excitement of "going downtown" when there were downtowns
to go to. Read it!
Customer Review: I hesitate to criticize a memoir, because it reflects the life story of an individual and it somehow seems to invalidate all those people who found this an endearing story. His mother's strength and commitment to her boys is her top priority as she scrapes out a life in Alabama. The story engaged me from the first paragraph and Bragg's rich writing style carried me through to... more info

The writing is in a story telling style, with a use of words that reminds me of Mark Twain, who said of his own writing that he was not a humorist, but a moralist who used humor to tell the story. It would not be a... more info
Customer Review: I can't believe all the good reviews for this book. It is a boring book. There is no substance to the book and it is poorly written. The author just rambles on about nothing.
Customer Review: Picking up at almost the instant that Angela's Ashes left off, "'Tis" is a worthy successor to Angela's Ashes. A thoroughly enjoyable read, I found myself flying through the first half of the book. As his life settles down, the narrative understandably slacks a bit, the best parts are his wandering... more info
