Customer Review: I recommend this book to anyone interested in learning the quarterstaff. Lindholm takes the reader through a tour a staff masters, providing a practical guide at the same time. I wish he had stuck a little closer to his sources; he gives you the historical maneuver adapted to his personal martial... more info
Customer Review: Master Galang has done it again, this is extremly informative and ecceptional work, any F.M.A. student needs this book in there library!
Customer Review: I had higher hopes that this title would relate cane techniques closely to Filipino Kali. While some connections were made, there is not much discussion of underlying principles. The featureless bubble figures used to illustrate the moves were an even greater disappointment, as it is not always... more info
Customer Review: This book is simple and elegant like the techniques of the Japanese swordsman. Beyond a couple of pages at the beginning of the book introducing the bokken and how to choose one, there is little said in the book other than through the captions to the many photos. This book allowed me to pick up my... more info
Customer Review: Having spent ten years in a traditional Asian martial art discipline with occasional smatterings of more reality based approaches, I find the author's reasoning clear and realistic. My only criticism is that I wish some of the photos were larger and clearer.

The techniques described may seem insanely risky to a sport fencer, but a modern foil,... more info
Customer Review: This is the type of book that could be taught in a class. Lt. Col. Dave Grossman really knows his stuff. I also have his CD series Bullet Proof Mind which is awesome.
Customer Review: There were some good bits and pieces in here, and may be historically interesting, but was too confusing to be an improvement over other texts from the last half of the nineteenth century. To their credit, the authors understood that awareness of one's surroundings is more important to personal... more info
Customer Review: I have just started Aikido classes and this book could not have come at a better time. It is a reminder of the actual training I have had in class. It also gives me more information on the few jo, tanto and bokken techniques that I have received in class. Some of these techniques and katas I have... more info
Customer Review: Musashi said something like: amateurish martial arts are a source of serious injuries. He also said that many schools of martial arts are more decoration than reality. My opinion is that this book covers very little of the serious stuff you need to know in true martial arts.
