Perfect for those without technical skills:
My first response to folks who used these in-car GPS devices was, "So, you can't write down the directions?" I bought this about six months ago and can no longer imagine how I lived without it. Imagine my surprise... Traveling alone feels much more secure with the Garmin. Also, traveling to unfamiliar areas is a piece of cake. Outdated Garmin:
This Garmin is outdated. The Garmin I received does not charge easily. Sometimes it does, other times not. Very disappointed.
great if it worked:
I bought this Garmin while on sale. It was my first gps device. Worked great for the first 3 months but now it cuts on and off at random! It also will lockup at the password stage for long periods of time. Turning the device on and off only fixes the issue 1/3 of the time. What's the point of a gps if you can't use it while driving? ANNOYING WASTE OF MONEY. Will update if Amazon or Garmin will fix the problem.

Bought this GPS back in April for a trip to SF. It worked wonders for about a week and after coming back to Boston, it was almost impossible getting a signal. The service at amazon was great. They sent me a new one but it worked the same. I think the whole batch has a problem. Ended up exchanging for a 265 WT which seems to be more steady and predictable than the 285 WT.
