sturdy, good reception, cheap:
I love this thing. It's great for outside use when I'm painting or washing the car. I can beat it up and it still keeps going and sounding great. WIsh it still had the TV band, like the older version of this radio I have, but the FCC is doing away with analog TV, so it wouldn't work anyway. If you're looking for hi-fidelity, this is NOT the radio for you. It's not stereo, there is no bass, etc. But it does sound great and gets the job done if you just want some background noise from a radio that... more info

Value for the Money:
Was looking for a portable during power outages. The sony fits the bill at a reasonable price. The reception is good and the sound clear, definitely worth the money.
Old School:
Try to find a "simple" AM/FM radio nowadays at a reasonable price without all the bells and whistles. I finally did with this Sony product. Just plug it in or use the batteries for a leisurely listen out on the patio. Easy to use and sounds great.
