Dianne Reeves "When You Know" again demonstrates her vocal abilities but I have to say, the songs are a little too standard. Her voice is capable of much more intricate tunes and hopefully she'll return to the unique stylings that one usually finds on her collections.
Decompress With Dianne Reeves:
I saw the talented Dianne Reeves in concert for the first time in late June, and she sang about 75% of the cuts from this album which prompted me to buy it. "When You Know" is perfect to listen to if you've had a stressful day/week and need to relax and unwind. Dianne's voice is smooth and soothing, and the songs are perfect for her instrument. The musicians complement her perfectly. Listening to this album is a great way to decompress, along with a glass of wine or a beer!
What Were They Thinking?:
This CD is the equivalent of a chick flick. Nine whining songs, in a single album, all about love is hard to take. Sometimes the inane lyrics even made me cringe. I can't imagine anyone would think these choices would be entertaining. The production doesn't measure up to George Duke's past successes like Nightcap with Marilyn Scott. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Dianne Reeves fan, which is why I decided to buy this CD. But I'll have to think twice about buying her next one.
what a gorgeous voice!:
Ms. Reeves voice constantly impresses me - her range is miraculous - while all of her CD's are wonderful this one is positively joyous...
