The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is three devices in one. The Wireless Access Point lets you connect both Wireless-G (802.11g at 54Mbps) and Wireless-B (802.11b at 11Mbps) devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Connect four PCs directly, or attach more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. The Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. All your computers can print on a shared printer connected anywhere in the house. Your computers can share all kinds of music, digital picture, and document files. The Wi-Fi Protected Setup feature makes it easy to configure your wireless devices. Just push the button on the Router and on your other Wi-Fi Protected Setup enabled wireless device to automatically create a WPA2 connection that protects your data and privacy with up to 256-bit industrial-strength encryption. The Router can serve as a DHCP Server, has a powerful SPI firewall to protect your PCs against intruders and most known Internet attacks, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Advanced configuration is a snap with the web-browser-based interface. I was trying to use Microsoft Remote Desktop and realized that is appeared that the outgoing port was blocked. This not documented anywhere I could find so I contacted Linksys. What a disaster. The only answer I could get was I needed to... more info

The WRT54G2 seems like a stopping point before wireless-N becomes the de facto standard for WiFi products. The firmware and web interface is very similar to that of the G1 router, so it's very configurable and intuitive for the somewhat technically inclined. The broadcast strength is terrific.
So, it works well. But what is wrong with companies making products that cannot be stacked, mounted or stored anywhere except on a desktop with huge swaths of free space? This awful retro-future design makes me... more info
