when it works its good:
Like the title says, when it works the picture quality is great. Unfortunately, the player only plays a handful of DVDs well. The large majority of other DVDs sound damned noisy, are noisy and have a choppy video, or don't work at all. Samsung customer service is poor, but I finally got through to a technician who suggested a firmware upgrade. So, I ordered the firmware upgrade from the tech support and also downloaded the firmware updated from the Samsung website. Neither worked so I called again and was... more info

We loved the small footprint of this machine that produced excellent quality playback. But one day it wouldn't play any DVD after several tests including unplugging / replugging power. Symptom was inability to "load" the DVD. Got it exchanged with no challenge. Replacement played a few months and then the exact same failure. Returned the machine for a full refund. There is just some flaw endemic to this machine - laser, software, or other.

I wish I had read reviews before buying this DVD player. It's been four months since I bought it new and now it is broken - doesn't read any discs anymore - not dvds not cds nothing. I should have guessed - my last TV was a Samsung (an HDTV with a real picture tube - boy was that a mistake) and after two years that TV started to crack all on its own.
