This CD was a total impulse buy for me--I had never even heard of Jeff Healey before. But I saw it in a separate display case in the store, it looked interesting, and I hadn't listened to any blues in a while, so I thought I'd give it a try. I am very glad I did. There's a lot of good ol' rollicking electric blues on this disc, including interesting interpretations of "Like a Hurricane" and "Shake Rattle and Roll," which I thoroughly enjoyed. A new favorite:
This is the only Jeff Healey CD I have listened to so far. I had heard his name and a song here and there over the years but hadn't realized what I was missing. Based on this CD I think Jeff Healey was very special ... figures he would die young ... many of my favorites did. His sound is unique and I cant wait to get more of his stuff.
The only thing wrong with this CD is that it's the last one:
There will be no more Jeff Healey CDs. Damn. I somehow saw Jeff Healey as lasting forever, like Pinetop or BB or Buddy Guy. Just like them, he sung his blues from someplace deep inside. At the same time, he was a protean creature, equally capable of going jazz, country, or even rocking out when need be. This album features a wonderful cover of "How Blue Can You Get."
