This new accessory will enable users to receive traffic information via radio signal. The TomTom RDS/TMC Traffic Receiver connects to TomTom GO GPS receivers and will automatically start receiving traffic information from the device. Subscription fee required to receive service to help keep you alert of ongoing traffic issues among participating areas in USA and Canada. The device comes with a 12-month subscription. After that, the subscription may be renewed at about $60 per year. In addition the TomTom RDS/TMC Traffic Receiver provides TomTom users with alternative routes if delays occur, which ensures limited delays to any journey. The unit interfaces with several TomTom GPS car devices. The TomTom RDS/TMC Traffic Receiver works by using TMC signals that are received through a normal FM radio antenna and broadcast by national or regional providers. By simply connecting the new TomTom GO device to the RDS/TMC Traffic Receiver, users will automatically receive traffic information via the TMC connection. Once a journey is planned, traffic alerts which relate to the route are clearly displayed in the traffic bar on the right hand side of the screen. When the user taps an icon shown in the traffic bar, they receive further information, such as the cause or kind of delay to traffic, such as an accident or traffic jam. In addition, the TomTom PLUS Traffic service provides up to date information on weather and road conditions. TomTom Traffic is a subscription based service that can be obtained via wireless data connection (GPRS, UMTS etc.).

Two different products with the same name:
I found that the received unit did not match the picture, and was for a different model of TomTom. The third party Vendor, did try to satisfy me, by sending me a replacement, that still wasn't the right product. It would have been nice if the product description mentioned that some TomTom models apparently have the traffic built in, and only require some sort of antenna. Eventually, the vendor did reimburse me, after I sent both units back. I ended up going to a big box store & picked up... more info
Not worth the extra money, should be in box w/ TomTom:
Given the more than $100 price I paid for this product, i was a little disappointed to find nothing more than a FM radio antennae with a mini-usb connector and 3 suction cups in the box. Considering the cost of manufacturing this has got to be less than $10, the more than 1000% markup has to at least be covering the service that this device allows me to receive. To their credit, there are no subscription fees for the traffic service once the equipment is owned, at least in my area. The service is... more info
Tom Tom Traffic Receiver:
Great item when you are within a big city AND if you do not listen to your IPOD music. We recently went on a cross country trip and when we were in a large city this add-on device worked wonderfully. However when we were listening to our music we never noticed the device telling us of impending traffic delays. I wished the item flashed red when there are impending traffic problems. Otherwise it works great!!
Worthless and no on line help:
I Bought the RDS-TMC Traffic receiver for my TomTom920. There were vertually no instructions. Online It is noted If have no Traffic acount. AWhen I click to buy traffic coverage whic is supposed to be included for free it returns me to a site where I have to do the same thing again with no results. I have had it a month in Chicago and it is just another antenna with nothing else, Totally a waste. I am surprised that Amazon would sell such a worthless product and that TomTom will not support it.
