The Canon UV-1 filter for 58mm lenses absorbs harmful ultraviolet rays without increase of exposure, thereby preventing haziness and foggy effects in distant landscapes. It also has a very subtle warming effect, which can be useful to counter the "cool" colors you sometimes get in bright sun or in shade. It can be left on the lens at all times for protection of the camera's lens.

Great price, just as advertised:
I should have bought this earlier. I have not noticed any change in haze, but I bought this simply to protect my lens. It doesn't appear to have any negative impact on my photos. Great price, quick shipping, good product.
Filter:
Bought 2 of these, purely as protection for my Lenses, but they do in fact give a certain amount of 'warmness' to my photographs. In the past, on my old Canon SLR, I always used a 'skylight' filter on my lenses, but I assume these have the same or similar effect. I haven't found that I lose enough light to worry about leaving them on all the time, which I do even when taking night photos. I'd recommend that everyone put these on their lenses, purely to avoid the risk of scratches.
Canon Filter:
While the filters help control UV Rays, they also protect the lense. Amazon has the lowest price..No need to even talk about it..
Not Recommended:
I do not recommend this filter. I used it on my efs 18-55 kit lens for protection. However, I found that it increases flare and lowered the sharpness of my images. My kit lens is now filter-less and taking nicer photos. I use a Hoya Super HMC 58mm UV filter on my EF 70-300IS lens and have experienced none of these issues. It only cost about $25.
