Sony's first closed-type Fontopia design reduces outside noise for high-intensity listening, helping to generate powerful, resonant bass response. So exercise, dance, or skate with the MDR-EX51LP Fontopia Headphones. Featuring a Super-light in-the-ear Design for a snug, comfortable fit inside the ear - eliminating the headband, Super-small 9 mm Drivers, and Soft, Silicon Earbuds, these headphones were created to enhance your on-the-go listening. Two sizes of earbuds are also included. So move to your music with the MDR-EX51LP.
Most noise-reducing headphones feature large over-the-head or behind-the-neck headbands, making them a bit bulky to use while traveling or working out. Not so the Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia headphones, whose ultra-light in-the-ear design sounds great while minimizing distracting ambient noise. The closed-type construction makes the headphones a perfect fit for airline, train, or bus travel, or while dancing or skating to your own tune. The phones owe their audio performance to the extra-small 9 mm drivers and neodymium magnets fitted inside each earpiece. The drivers and magnets combine to generate high-intensity sound, with a deeper-than-expected bass response (as low as 6 Hz) and refreshingly crisp mid- and high-range tones. Listeners will also welcome the two sizes of ear buds that come with the headphones, ensuring that users find the right match for their individual ear shapes. The soft silicone buds are also responsible for much of the noise reduction. Additional features include an oxygen-free copper cord that reduces noise and improves signal transfer, a gold-plated mini-plug that resists corrosion, a stylish neck chain cord, and a streamlined carrying case that easily slips into a shirt pocket.

The product, MDR EX51LP Fontopia In-the-Ear Headphones, aside from having a ridiculous name is excellent. It took a while for me to find the exact model that I had used for about five years which went kaput. But after some exhausting searches, no thanks to Sony's internet product advertising, I was able to get an exact replacement. Maybe its only available in the after-market. When something works very well and it breaks you kind of want to replace it with the same thing with which you became comfortable... more info
For the cheap to mid earbud price range, best I ever had.:
The sound is crystal clear, in fact I often preferred them over my Logitech X-530 speakers (which, if you do some research are the best speakers in their price range). Bass is strong but not overwhelming, mid and high are crystal clear as well. You will never miss a lyric. The fit with the pictured rubber tips was perfect and they just never fell out, not once. No wind noise, minimal cord noise. The only problems I ever had in a year and a half of use seem to be the inherent problems with earbuds. If... more info
Sony MDR-EX51LP Fontopia In-The-Ear Headphones, White:
These earphones are great for listening to my audiobooks. They are soft and comfortable in my ears for long periods of time.
good sound quality, but not so comfortable:
As a disclaimer, I have never tried other in-ear headphones. My old earbuds were the type that sat just outside the ear canal, like these: Apple In-Ear Headphones (White). I found those to hurt my ears and the pads always fell off. So I decided to give these in-ear headphones a shot. The sound quality is great. That is undebatable. However, I find that they are rather uncomfortable. Also, I don't like how I can't hear what is going on around me. I often walk on a road without a sidewalk and I can't... more info
