The hallmark of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is the guard position. BJJ not only teaches you how to defend from your back, but how to be comfortable off of it and attacking from it. If you cannot fight from your back, you are not fully prepared to fight. Strategic Guard is a detailed, organized examination of the open guard with a particular emphasis on obtaining and maintaining the guard and attacking from the open guard. Strategic Guard features seventh degree black belt Joe Moreira's unique brand of jiu-jitsu, developed over the course of his 40 years of experience in iu-jitsu and judo. The essence of the guard is core body movement. Strategic Guard clearly and concisely demonstrates Moreira's methods for mastery of these core body movements, which make the guard the potent weapon it is. Strategic Guard is packed with over 2800 color photos arranged in intuitive, easy-to-follow spreads. Grappling Arts Publications prides itself on innovative visual presentations that have redefined how martial arts books are made, and this volume raises the bar again. Strategically sound, tactically relevant:
I have been following the rise of the grappling movement since the first Ultimate Fighting Championship in Denver, Co., 1993. Since this time, exaggerations have developed about the importance of grappling skills in the martial arts arena, which have more to do with individual marketing claims than about the genuine importance of basic grappling skills. There are, however, fundamental truths about grappling essentials that are needed if one desires to become a well-rounded fighter. Enter: The Strategic... more info
Excellent detail:
Great detail! Experienced fighters will appreciate this book, it explains and shows the finer details required after you have a working knowledge of the basics.
Much Improved:
I purchased the two previous books by this author. While the information in those volumes was very good, the graphics were very small and difficult to follow. That has been remedied in this volume. The graphics are much improved and make it much easier to the techniques being displayed.
Strategic Guard:
All three books have been excellent. The quality of the paper and picutes in this one is by far the best of the series. This book has a lot of detail, practitioners of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu should be able to use this as a reference for years. This is not for the casual reader, but is full of tecniques and details to help the serious grappler have an impassable guard!
