I purchased this book mainly on the good reviews it had received. The majority of points were right on the money. I mainly liked the pictures associated with each attack. Although most people who will be using a cane, will not be attempting the joint locks and takedowns. All in all the book is well worth the money and is a great starting point for self protection.

I own several different books covering this subject and this one is by far the most comprehensive and understandable. This one is good for both beginners in the art and for those who have more experience. This book is really great. The humility of the author and his writing style are excellent. The techniques are well described and the pictures are clear and well sequenced. The high point of this book is the author's exploration of techniques that are questionable or perhaps weak combat techniques. The reality of this sort of discussion is that it exposes the depth of his knowledge, which can only come from trying a technique over and over with different training partners.
